My First Trip

My daughter Erin and her family flew down to Arizona to have Christmas with her husband's family and while there did a road trip. Part of that was getting a train into see the Grand Canyon, the train had the usual 'hold up' by cowboys etc and they family loved it.

This was Sofia's first trip and Erin said she travelled really well, this picture was taken on that train trip.

It was the first time I've attempted to use G45 paper, it's always seemed to be in the 'too hard basket' for me, just didn't know what I would do with it. Well when I saw these gorgeous Pixie line papers I couldn't resist them.

I realised the 'way' was in fussy cutting, something which I enjoy a lot, so this page is full of it, pieces from about 4 different papers on this LO, and it was one of those occasions when I had to go, whoa...enough, hope you like it.

The journaling is actually on the little blue bunny card on the book, I tried to make it part of the book. And it simply read, My First Trip, and explains it was on the train going to the Grand Canyon...she won't remember of course, but pretty cool place to see at her age...I thought Magical was a good title for that and also for the gorgeous picture of my daughter with Sofia.

As I promised I am hoping to keep the layouts coming to my blog.
I couldn't resist this Kaisercraft paper line when I saw it at our LSS, it's so girlie and cute isn't it.

I actually fussy cut the paper circle with the flowers at the top, away from the inner circle and the outside edges. I then used a 2nd piece of paper for the inner circle and a 3rd piece for the squared outer piece. Fussy cutting takes ages and drives you a little crazy at the time but gosh its well worth the effort.

All the embellishments, the little girls, flowers and some of the leaves, are all from the same Kaisercraft paper range. The green chipboard frame is from Dusty Attic...love their stuff, I painted this with Making Memories 'Celery' paint.

Putting in the Kilometres

Well I'm doing really well in my fitness routine, trying to lose weight and am dieting but eating sensibly, the exercising...well, I know what it means to become addicted to it, am working my butt off literally, did 6 kilometres on the treadmill today but still found time to do a layout. I will be posting that shortly, so hopefully I can keep this blog up to date now. Although, my slideshow I had with all my work on it disappeared when I had trouble with my blog and I doubt I will have time to re do that, hope to get another under way soon.

Well after not updating my blog for some time due to family health problems and a 2 month trip to America to see my daughter and her family, also managed to have a get together with 5 of my American online scrapping friends...now I hope to re jig it a bit and get it going again, may put some of my LO's which have missed out...wow!! so many pictures of grandchildren during that period, some scrapped and heaps not.

My husband has just had an operation in Melbourne for his back so hopefully things will start to look up now.

In November my friend and I went to Melbourne to do Prima classes with the amazing Ingvilde Bolme and Sharon Laakanon. What amazing ideas they have and although doing a class with Ingvilde was the highlight as I've been a long time fan of hers, I must say that Sharon's class was awesome, as you all know I like 'pretty', well Sharon does 'pretty' so well and we made a beautiful canvas mini album.

We were so happy with the classes in Melbourne we both jumped at the opportunity when another of my long time favourite artists was coming to Perth Gerry Van Gent....yes we are going!!! 2 days of classes with her and the other artist while not my style but absolutely amazing in the field of mixed medic is Finnibair (on Scrapbook.com), she is so amazing in her own style that I'm sure there will be heaps we'll take away from the classes so am looking forward to her classes as well.

In the meantime I am just hanging out for all the new Prima goodies to come on the market after there release at the recent CHA in America. Along this line, I have been lucky enough to have a great scrapping friend in America who sat up until Midnight to catch the HSN show which showcased 'We R Memory Keepers' Lucky 8 punches, they sold for that show only at half price and immediate release, they won't be in stores until July....sooo lucky and I now can't wait for them to arrive, these punches cut out the lining up problems that can occur with border work.

Well that's a brief summary of my 'missing in action' time. Whilst catching up on my scrapping is of utmost importance to me I will endeavour to get back into my blog.

Cricut cuts with a difference

Well something different and thinking outside the square when using the Cricut.
Katie wanted the quilt for her new born I was making, to have a jungle theme with the colours that made it look 'jungle like' not pretty with silly coloured animals, so therefore the colours were dictated by that.

I immediately thought of my 'Animal World' cartridge but had never cut fabric on the Cricut before, it did present with a problem because I wasn't confident cutting out the animals with the visoflex (sticky stuff), on the back of it. So I changed my applique method, cut them bigger and allowed a 'tuck under' seam allowance so I rolled the edges under as I did the blanket stitching.

I used a different cartridge for the crocodile but I'm darned if I can remember which cart it was from but it was a few weeks ago that I cut them out and have too many carts to search through at this point, but I will do and update this post later.

Well I'll put the animal pics up and the full quilt and hopefully it will help some of you to have the courage to do something different.

Sorry for the long list but I wanted all the pics on my blog to remember it as I'll now delete the pics from the thousands that I seem to pile up on my computer.

being able to have time to get online again, gosh after family visiting from America, my other daughter having a baby and a very sick pooch I thought I was never going to get around to scrapping again, then when I started and finally did something, my blogger was locking me out, anyway I'm back online and hopefully my blog will start rolling again now, although I have so much to do as I've just finished a quilt for my newest grandson William (Will) and now my other daughter is having a much wanted baby girl so I finally get to scrap pink and pretty, but also make a beautiful pink baby quilt...so where can I get more hours in the day?

This latest LO is of Bob and I with our Grandson William or Will to most and Billy to some hehehe..
We both love this photo of us with him so thought I would practice pretty again in readiness for the baby girl album to come.

For this page I used Cricut cartridges 'Heritage' for the gate, and 'Cindy Loo' for the scalloped circle with the vines and bird...although I must say I think that cute little bluebird that I thought it was on the screen actually looks more like a 'puffer fish' to me in reality oh well its there to stay. I thought I would use a mixture of Glimmer Mist's on this to make it blend in a little more and the blue bird is also Glimmer Mist with the face stamped on using a 'Peachy Keen' stamp. I also used 'Smooch' white spray for the chipboard working 'Happiness is..' and on the vine down the side I used a gold Glimmer Mist. Both of these chipboard elements along with the tag at the top which reads 'holding onto the things you love'...are from Dusty Attic another great Australian company, love their chipboard die cuts.

The whole lot of everything used on this page comes from one of my fav online stores 'Outback Scrapping' which by the name you can tell is also Australian, they have great monthly kits, you probably get 1 LO and a card or 2 from a kit but they aren't expensive at all so I am happy with that.

Well I am going to endeavour to pop in daily from now on and include more of my life in my blog, of course that life revolves around mainly scrapping anyway, along with a bit of quilting and a lot of my grandchildren so nothing much will change probably from what I'm doing.

Layouts for the Cricutworld Blog

In trying to clean up Henry's 1st year album I realised I hadn't scrapped his Halloween pics. So went searching and found them thankfully so here they are.

Today....I've used the October 31 cartridge so much I don't think there is a cut on it I didn't use. We don't really celebrate Halloween much here in Australia so I get to enjoy it through my grandson in America. These pictures are of his 1st Halloween, so was more fun for mum and dad than Henry, sure he won't remember much about it but he will at least have these memories in my album...I thought because it is what I call the 'silly season', that I could go a bit over the top with these layouts and had a lot of fun doing them, hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I had fun doing them.

Had a great phone call from my daughter Erin yesterday from America. She is having her 2nd child in September, whatever it is a little brother for Henry or a little sister, it is going to be very loved and welcomed into the world by my Bob and I as our 3rd grandchild. With Katie's son due in only 4 weeks now...ooohh!! so exciting to have a grandchild here in the same country that we can actually babysit as often as required....to have it followed by another in only a few months after that brings me more happiness than I can put into words. Our beautiful sweet little Henry is going to have lots of instant playmates and can only dream of the years ahead to see them playing together. I feel we are truly blessed to have 2 such beautiful daughters and now to have 3 grandchildren.

Cards

Not much of a card maker but want to improve so keep trying different things. This lot of cards was done in a mad rush to supply some for a fund raising event the following day. Pretty basic but thought I'd put them up anyway, nothing special to explain about any of them other than I have used my Cricut whenever possible.

Like I said, just an example of a few cards done very quickly and easily, made for a fund raiser so didn't want to put too much on them so as they could be kept at a reasonable price to sell.

This one was done for a special person, so a little more time taken with the design and beautiful Christina Rea papers which I love. The embellishments were done using my Cricut and the beautiful 'Paper Lace' cartridge...just love it and will be using it a lot I'm sure.

Been busy scrapping

Well been neglecting my blog again. The reason is I have been making a really big attempt to catch up on my friends galleries and leave the comments they so deserve and I am happy that I have caught up on a lot of them but still have a little way to go.

Then yesterday, after an absence of 7 years my Vertigo Attacks returned, of course I was home alone and stuck downstairs, managed to crawl up so I could get the phone, but didn't need to ring anyone as it eventually came right, think I had been pushing myself too hard the night before making cards for a charity fund raiser. Tonight I was thinking I must have trodden on a toad or something because when I was in the middle of making Sushi for dinner I knocked the bottle of Olive Oil onto the floor in my pantry, along with a few other bottles of things, they smashed of course on the tiles, oil everywhere, can't begin to tell you what a rotten clean up job that was....moral of my day today...do not keep oil on the higher shelves because if you drop it, its going to take some casualties with it. To top that off I was half way through cleaning it up and I hear my dog being ill, yes, on the cream carpet so I had to drop one lot of cleaning products and grab a different kind aarghh!!! like I said..must have trodden on a toad. Poor old Murphy has continued to be ill and I am really worried about him....well time for bed and hopefully a happier and much more healthy pooch in the morning.

Tomorrow means I'm back to adding some scrapping items on here, been holding a few back for my group blog 'Cricutworld'.

An Occasional Card

I'm not big on making my own cards but trying to do a lot more by using my Cricut for inspiration.

This one is for my brother's b'day. He is about to retire and has a long held dream of getting a mobile home (RV I think they are called in USA), but is a bit concerned over whether it is the way to go or not, so thought I would them his card along that line and the words inside basically remind him that life is short and you should follow your dreams.

I used the Cricut Cartridge 'Going Place' for the Van and the cases, the cases represent my sister in-law's excess baggage, she is a bit like me and will find it difficult to only take what a van will hold, I used Tim Holtz bits to represent his 'spare parts' for the trip, and have included the key to the door. The Birthday wish is also cut on the Cricut but have so many carts now I can't remember which one I cut it from I'm sorry, could soon find out if anyone wants to know though. Inside the card is another cut from 'Going Places' cartridge which says Happy Trails in a jumbled format.

With this one I've envisaged my daughter looking out the window at her future. She got married on the balcony of a very old heritage building which has beautiful large leadlight windows. So to create this idea I used the 'Ornamental Iron' cartridge to create that window she is looking through at the picture of her with her husband to be.

I cut the heart shape clear so it would circle her face and appear that she was indeed looking out the window. The window was cute using the 'Gate 10a with the window feature'. The dark green wrought iron cutting beside the photo of Katie and her husband was cut using the 'Gate 6c and the 1/2 frame feature'.

Used 'Ashlyn's Alphabet' cartridge for the Title background, Title and the butterfly below it. I cut this with the cream and also in green using the 'shadow' function for the background.

The vine was cut with a Martha Stewart punch while the small flowers on it were cut using a very old and small, Carl punch. The Floral Border along the top was also cut using a Martha Stewart punch.

Paper used was one of my fav's Basic Grey Capella (chorus sheet). The ribbon along the bottom had wire along the outside edges and I gathered this up.

Cricut World Blog

Quite a few years ago I started submitting my layouts on the 'Scrapbook.com' site and eventually joined a couple of group threads on there. One of those is a Cricut group where we share our work and ideas and get much needed help when needed, I was a late starter in this group as far as getting my Cricut goes because they came to Australia a lot later than they were available in the USA. Have to say I have had so much help from these girls and am happy to be part of the group creating our own blog called 'Cricut World' to help and encourage others to use their cartridges as much as possible.

My first contribution to this blog follows and is based on another of my 'fantasy' ideas I occasionally have.

PRECIOUS little man

This layout is based on a shot I was lucky to get. As everyone would know, it gets harder to get good pictures of our babies as they become toddlers, so I was very happy with this sweet picture

I used an old technique on this layout that I haven't done for years. That is creating a stamp using bubble wrap. What I did was paint the black Making Memories paint on to a piece of Foil. Then I gently pressed the bubble wrap over that, by doing it this way rather than painting directly on to the bubble wrap, it is more like stamping and you avoid getting blodges of paint on your layout, and get more of a distressed look.

I used the 'Birthday Bash' cartridge for the font and also used the 'shadow' effect. This is a really cute cartridge that I would recommend especially for anyone with young children's layout's to do.

Been rather busy around our house and yard the past week so not a lot of time online or scrapping. I have produced a couple of things for our Group blog though so I can relax about that, can't say any more at the moment but all will be revealed in about a week and I will then be publishing and talking about my project.

Well Australia Day here today and the weather has really been beautiful, despite that Bob and I have spent a productive day around the house and garden getting things back up to date. After being overseas for nearly 5 weeks it was amazing how quickly things had become over grown in the garden and how many household tasks needed doing after having a wall taken out while we were away, this meant changing some of the furniture which has been fun and given our home a lovely refreshing feel about it.

Tomorrow is definitely a scrapping day, until Katie arrives that is, she is coming up to spend the night with us which will be lovely. Counting the weeks now of course until her baby is born, it will be so nice to have a grandchild here in Australia, but of course it won't limit us from visiting our sweet little Henry in America as often as we can so he grows up knowing us.

As I haven't got a layout to publish I think I will just give you a look at Henry and the cat which they were cat sitting for Xmas week...trying to out fox each other with the stairwell....the cat won hehehe..

In following my favourite artist's blog I discovered that she is coming to Australia to teach in October...I can't believe she is coming and as long as I'm not in America visiting my daughter...then I don't care what it costs me, my friend and I are determined that we will be there for lessons.

Had a busy couple of days in the kitchen...not my favourite place, not that I'm a bad cook, just hate the cleaning up and the time it takes to prepare things when it could be spent scrapping ah!!!

Blanching vegetables from Bob's garden yesterday for a few hours, it was nice coming home to our own vegetable's after our trip to America. Also had to cook up a couple of Mutton Birds for Bob yesterday which he had for dinner tonight...boy are they fatty birds, can't explain how much oil is in the pan when you finish, I have to boil the kettle so the water is hot enough to ensure the pan is fully free of it and the smell it leaves behind, he loves them though.

Then today, rabbits, soaked them overnight then fried them to brown them up a bit this morning before I left for the hairdresser's. Then home to put them in the slow cooker, made the sauce and all the vegies to go in it and now I'm sitting up waiting for it to finish cooking as I don't have a timer on my cooker...why didn't I think of that when I bought it? down in Hobart all day tomorrow for doctor appointments so at least dinner is already cooked ready for when we get home.

Watching the TV stories on the devastating floods in Northern Australia, really hard to comprehend just how bad they are, and so many people loosing their lives, and Brisbane our countries third largest city has been inundated with water, amazing conditions, scary to say the least.

Had a phone call from Erin this morning, it was so nice to hear her voice and little Henry in the background, Erin had to say goodbye to Katie as she headed home yesterday and I know how sad she would be feeling, thankfully only 3 months before they come home and hopefully we will see them lots while they are here even though it is always hard when you have relatives and friends to catch up with as well, everyone wants to see you so it is hard to make sure you enjoy everyone's company without losing too much of yourself...i.e. get tooo tired to enjoy coming home. Henry will be 21 months old, not a good age to travel with but I'm sure they will work things out and hopefully have no problems on that horrible long plane trip.

Then I spoke to Katie as she sat waiting in Sydney for the plane to bring her back to Hobart, she had a good trip home despite her advanced pregnancy so that really topped off my day, I'm sure she will sleep long and hard for a couple of days but she has had a wonderful holiay with Erin.

Then I got busy...I hate house work, but isn't it funny how you always feel so satisfied when you have achieved a big job around the home. Bob and I had decided it was time to clean out underneath our stairwell as we had accumulated a number of excess bags...wonder why!! ... hmmmm...maybe because we over shop when we travel and have to buy extra bags all the time...anyway, at least they are going to a good cause, over to the St Vincent De Paul Society tomorrow, for my American friends that is the same as your 'Goodwill' stores. I was very pleased with myself at what I actually threw out, of course I still have kept things that should go, and will do in time, but small steps for a hoarder like I am...today it was a few large steps with lots of trash as a result.

So, I've cooked a nice dinner, updated my blog like I intended (unusual for me hehehe)...and now off to browse some of my favourite scrapping friends blogs..

Erin, Jarrod and Henry came into Seattle to spend the day with us as soon as we arrived and we visited the Space Needle where this pic was taken. Of course the background is courtesy of the centre's computer imaging fortunately because it was a freezing cold and bleak day.

Another trip to America come and gone

Well this latest trip seemed like the longest we'd ever done. We had 4 days in Seattle in a Hotel which was great, it allowed us time to go on the Underground Tour, seeing in a small way the way Seattle was 100 years ago, I loved it, full of history and interest. Also did the 'Duck' Tour part on road and mostly on the Harbour. What a great way to see Seattle from a totally different viewpoint, something else I would thoroughly recommend.

We had a trip on Amtrak down to Portland Oregon with the intention of seeing and feeling just a little of my Ancestry. Unfortunately without driving it was impossible to get to see the town which was actually laid out by my g-g-uncle in mid 1800's. It was still nice to just be in the area which they arrived in by covered wagon via the 'Oregon Trail' all that time ago. The Coastal area of Oregon is absolutely stunning and we really loved the scenery and I found a new 'I want to live here' place...right on the beach at 'Cannon's Beach' simply stunning.

Then back up on the train to Seattle where Erin picked us up and we got to spend Christmas with her family and also our youngest daughter Katie and her husband who arrived on the 22nd, it was wonderful to be able to do this as we don't know when we will have a Xmas all together again.

Henry of course had changed and is a healthy, cheeky and gorgeous little grandson whom we both adore and love dearly. The only problem with these trips is they just make me realise how much I miss my daughter, each departure to come home hurts more and it broke my heart to leave her this time...not sure why but it really upset me, hope this isn't a 'sign' of the year to come...why did she have to move to the other side of the world is something that is constantly in my mind now.....of course I know, she followed her heart...but!!!!!! she is so missed here.

Again poor old blog has been neglected and another determination rolling around in my mind to make sure I keep it up to date more in the future. I now have unloaded a few of my online responsibilities which in turn cuts back on my computer time therefore freeing up more time for doing more of what I really love and that is 'scrapbooking'.

And strangely enough, while I'm talking about all this cold weather we are about to head off to experience in 2 days, I am sitting here being bombarded by flying ants, they only come when it is extremely hot like today was at 33 degrees, very unusual for Tassie at this time of year...well, any time of year really. Guess we maybe get 2 or 3 days a year this hot. Tried typing with the light off but my eyes aren't what they used to be and it was too hard, so I'm flicking these bugs off me every few seconds, they are driving me crazy.

It's that time again, well almost, Christmas and our younger daughter katie and her husband are heading off to have Christmas with Erin so we have decided to go as well. We have had a lot of sad moments in our little town recently, losing some very nice people and are just set now to go live our lives doing whatever we want, and that includes having Christmas with both our beautiful daughters who are the pride of our lives. Having little Henry to celebrate with is an added bonus of course, and with Katie's little fellow due in March we have a lot to celebrate.

I just hope the bad weather currently happening in America, eases off a little in the next 2 days. Are seeing wonderful pictures of the snow at Erin's house and Jarrod building a big snowman on their front lawn for Henry...but I worry about having to drive in it, still looking forward to it thought.

Well, been really busy of late, up and down to our nearest large City for various reasons have left me with very little scrapping time, but still find time to do layouts of my grandson Henry...no matter how late at night it may be hehehe...like 2am sometimes aahhh!! got to get out of that habit.

Very excited right now because it is less than 2 weeks before we go back to America to visit our daughter and dear Henry.

Another layout, I'm finding I'm really getting a lot of use out of my Cricut now, using it on every layout.

Hi girls, thank you all so very very much for helping me have so much fun in selecting a name for my scrap room, I appreciate you taking the time and effort and in the end I had a list of 6 that I really liked...but...as my husband draws the line at only 1 sign hanging on the wall hehehe...I had to decide and the winner is;
Heather Landry - Scrappy Cave...reason is...it really is like a cave with my little opening in the front being the window to the outside world, I go inside and shut my door and hate leaving there.

Took a few days, can't believe how much stuff I found that I'd forgotten about, very happy with the design it worked really well with fitting stuff in, only problem is I could have done with a couple more shelves for punches....especially as I intend stockpiling a few more when I go to the States again in December...oh well, I'm sure I'll come up with something.

Been busy trying to decide on a name....soooo many great ones to choose from. I want to thank everyone that has joined in the fun and given me so many great ideas I am really having difficulty coming up with a favourite as I have many...possibility of combining some of your choices at this stage...made a list and going to go sit down and work through it and if need me I'll give a couple of treat to you fabulous girls who have been so great.

Wow ladies, you blow me away with all these wonderful suggestions, things I would never have thought of, makes me so glad I thought to have a bit of fun with this, hoping I get even more then I'll make a short list in around a week, but it isn't going to be easy.

I am not getting any chance to scrap at the moment, my scrap room is pretty much finished apart from my drawers for under my work bench, and they have to wait until the builder comes back from holidays in a months time. Unfortunately without them I may have a bit of mess on my bench top....strange that...to have a messy work area...do we do that...no, none of us hehehe...

I am getting so excited and can't wait to move in. In cleaning up my area upstairs I am finding all sorts of things I had forgotten I had, but boy oh boy is it taking me forever, Bob said tonight that I had better get a move on, tomorrow will be my last chance because on Saturday and Sunday we will be cleaning out the garage which has been a workshop for a month and has inches of sawdust everywhere. I also have to wipe out all my shelving, clean windows, vacuum, before I go anywhere near putting my stuff in the new room...its exciting but hard work for just a little bit.

Beautiful warm day today, lovely walk along the beach and Murphy even had a swim.
This follows a great win by my fav team that was in the Grand Final of the Australian Football League, not my team, but it was my dad's and I've always had a soft spot for them, an awesome team.
Dinner with friends last night at a lovely little seafood restaurant, only thing I haven't managed to do all weekend is scrap....maybe a late night tonight to fit some in. Think I'm a bit thrown by all the tidying up of my scrap supplies I'm trying hard to cut back on before the move into my scrap room, which will hopefully be this week...think, I'm starting to get a little excited about it.

New Scraproom

Well, I've never had one so I guess I should say...I now have a Scrap Room in progress.
Totally tailor made to fit my papers/cricut cartridges/stamps/ punches/albums/magazines and load of cupboard space for all those things you need to tuck out of the way.

Can't wait for it to be finished but because of all the measuring involved due to the above detailing...it is taking longer than initially expected. Then...clean up the mess, we've had some really awful weather here, way to cold/windy/rainy to do all the cutting outside so my garage has temporarily taken on the look of a joinery workshop with tons of sawdust and general dust.

Once it is nearly finished and the bench tops are on...peacock blue benches.... I'm going to give a RAK for the 'name my scrap room' idea. So stay tuned.

Have another thing to share that gives me much joy...but, sorry, got to wait another week before revealing that one.

Well I took my sister and her husband to the airport this morning, very sad time, I really miss her when she goes home, we've had a lovely time together celebrating mine and Bob's 60th birthday's....it's hard when your daughter and your sister live so far away but at least I get to visit them.
On a brighter note we had a glorious day here today until mid afternoon when that dreaded chill comes down, can't complain though as this has been one of the best winters I can remember.

Even brighter note.....the builder came today to measure up for my scrap room, building begins next week...think Bob will be glad to get all my mess downstairs.

Well the time we all dread has arrived today, end of summer, cooler mornings and nights already, darker sooner. But, shouldn't complain as we have had a wonderful summer and the warmest I can remember for some years.

Blog has been neglected a bit of late for many reasons, but hopefully now it will get some priority so I can get it back on track.

Our dear Grandson Henry has grown and changed so much since we last saw him last November, he is sitting up now, saying mum (his first word), and has 6 teeth with 3 coming through in the last week, amazing, and of course this has meant little sleep for his mum and dad.

Personally I've been playing around with digi scrapping, took a while to grasp the 'layers' thing but feel comfortable with that now so am stretching out into other areas. Don't think I would ever fully become a 'digi scrapper' because I love playing with the paper too much, but, definitely think I will use it to make smaller books for gifts etc as it is so quick. However, as a result of this and keeping up to date with my online friends and their galleries, I have had little time to actually scrap, done a few since the last ones posted on here so will put a couple up 'of Henry of course'. Will never be able to keep up with scrapping all the fabulous pics his mum and dad keep me updated with, without these I think I'd go crazy because it is so hard living so far from him. Less than 2 weeks and they will be home in Australia for our youngest daughters wedding...so a lovely wedding to look forward to and the arrival of Henry, Erin and Jarrod.

Well after being away from my blog for some time I am now back and will hopefully have the time to keep it up to date.

When I last posted we were heading back to the USA to visit our daughter and her family in Washington State. Well, our first visit there was absolutely wonderful, it was so nice to see how our gorgeous grandson had grown since we were last over there. Our daughter and son in-law took us to some of the most beautiful and scenic places and have to say this State is truly beautiful, can't wait to go back and explore it some more.

Yesterday was a wonderful day with our youngest daughter and her fiance at their home for Christmas Lunch. What a wonderful day it was, they have been renovating their home and doing a really great job, we are so proud of them. A lovely breakfast with them after a very early start from home, and then dinner and chat with Jeremy's family, made for a lovely day before heading back to Orford.

I was so glad to finally be in America and to be holding our first grandchild, he arrived early and we were still touring Ireland on our way to Virginia for his birth.

The Journaling on the bottom of this layout says; My greatest joy in life was having children. My second greatest was to see them happily married and happy in life. A grandchild is the icing on the cake and the dream.

This first one is from Vung Tau in South Vietnam, when my husband was based very close by during the war, this was all scrub, now its a tourist mecca. On this one I have cut the frame from the Cricut Cartridge 'Accent Essentials'. The furry little blue elephant ' too cute' is from Martha Stewart and the 'Moment in Time' wording is from FX essentials, Australia.

I decided rather than start with my favourite picture of Henry, I would start at the beginning, so these first 2 pages are a couple of many, taken shortly after his birth with his 'hospital' cap on, doesn't he look cute.
The Punched left edge and frame are both done with Martha Stewart Punches, the pale pp is Creative Imaginations. Decided to do a mix of blues with a hint of green for the album, although I'm sure I'll be tempted to vary that a bit when some nice new pages are released.

Well after 7 wks travelling to various parts of the world, namely Vietnam, Ireland and the USA, we are back home, missing our new grandson terribly but settling back into 'normal life' as we know it.

Taken a while to get everything organised to the point where I now feel I can throw myself back into my scrapping, my great love and enjoyment in life outside of my family.

New Family - DT PAGE for PAGES IN TIME

Pre wedding pic taken the night my SIL's family arrived from America for the wedding of dd and her dh. Big family gathering and first time we met most of his family.

This is for the DT at Pages in Time
I must admit to cutting the paper quite a bit it is Prima and the darker blue areas are flocked the lighter blue shading in it matched Jarrod's top so I decided to use the apricot with it as he had underneath in his T-Shirt and liked the match.

I stitched around the edge using the Bazzill 'In Stitch'z' template 'silly stitches' then used 5 strands of Anchor Embroidery cotton.

Birds were stamped from a Stampin Up Stamp on to the rough side of Acetate
Butterfly's stamped from an unknown clear stamp set

I then coloured them both on the rough side with Marvy Markers and added bling.

Youngest daughter Katie, this pic is 20 yrs old and didn't have much going for it in the background so I cut around the pic when I spotted this paper and thought it so suited the look on her face. If only I knew what she was thinking at the time.

Paper is Sassafras Lass Woodland Whimsy collection, and the green background is Cosmo Cricket Mr Camper Collection pack, caravan and bird are also added from that kit.

This layout was created for the DT on Pages in Time

I love manipulating paper, the more I can do that the less embellishment is needed in my mind.
For this reason I love to purchase matching paper sets.

The papers used here are from Prima, ' Spotlight' and 'Kabloom' these are available from Karen's store at Pages in Time; as well as the pale green b/ground paper I have used.

The frame is cut from 1 piece of Prima paper the base of which was a dark red that I have used to cut the title.
Vines and flowers around the page were cut from a separate piece of Prima paper with was brown with the pink and a few green flowers on it, the remainder of that is being used to make a card.

The Title was cut on my Cricut using Cartridge 'Cursive 101', and the lattice work was cut using Cartridge 'Graphically Speaking'. The vines top right corner, bottom left corner and across the lattice are from plain cardstock and cut using Cartridge 'Home Accents' then covered with Eucalyptus Stickles to blend it more and to match the other vines and leaves all of which came already glittered.

Used a Fiskars Finger Knife to do all the paper cutting. Flowers bottom left are adhered with 3D dots.

My youngest daugher Katie and partner of 8 yrs, have been together since 18 yrs and in University plus working extra jobs. 8 yrs on Katie is a qualified teacher who went straight from University into teaching at a top Private ladies School in Tasmania, and Jeremy is a software designer with a computer company.

Am really proud of them because they have travelled to Europe, saved and now have their own home which they are renovating and this Sunday leave to visit my eldest daughter in America, they really have done well and work very hard.

Love distressing and for this I used various techniques:
I begin by cutting completely around the edge with deckle scissors any design will do. Then run my craft knife around the already cut edges and it will catch and tear in the indentations, I think this gives more of a natural distressed look.

I then get a foot buff sander and rub at all rough edges to feather them a bit.
This was followed by using 3 different colours inks, any can be used but a mix of light to dark works best.

B/ground paper is K & Co, brown circle paper is BG Bittersweet as are the embellishments i cut from a piece of paper.
The frame is cut using Cricut Storybook cart, bottom shield shaped embellie I have had for yrs in my stash.
Punched top around circle is using a Tonic punch which I love.

Local Golf Club had fundraising night to buy water (we are in a severe drought), theme was to dress as something beginning with a 'P'.

Bob was Phantom of the Opera and I was his Parlor Maid hehe

Used BG Bittersweet paper and cut from a piece of paper all the strips using a Fiskars Finger Knife
Btoom right embellishment and 'p" were cut from Cricut as was the title

Used Stickles on the flowers
White signo Pen around matting and circle.

Note for journaling was from 'Making Memories'

Cards from leftovers

A challenge on 'Pages in Time' was to do a layout and a card using the leftovers. I thought this was a wonderful idea and although I didn't meet guidelines of challenge (it need to be about Easter), I thought it was such a great idea I would start doing it. Don't know how much I have thrown away when I think I am doing the right thing in keeping scraps 'to be used later', only to never use them and thrown them out.

This way I should never have to buy cards again and I won't be piling up a heap of scrap paper either. From the layout posted below, I made 3 cards which I am very happy with because I am not a card maker - well, I should say I have never been a card maker, but now I plan to become one and be creative in my use of paper with it.

Made sure they were for different occasions as well.

Mum & I

This layout is a very special one for me, as my mum was my greatest inspiration, a real lady and someone I miss heaps.

The original pic was taken by my father in 1957 and was only 2 X 2 inches, so not very clear and quite scrunched up. I restored it best I could on photoshop then blew it up to 5X7 and was amazed it came up as well as it did. Because it still is isn't 100% with the restoration I realized I would need to create a beautiful background to lift the pic and give it the credit the pic deserved.

Techniques used; Cosmo Cricket papers and journaling tag
Deep orange/red colour for backing page, olive green with red and gold front pp
Cut a square to surround pic and didn't distress on that
Cut a square 1" around that, zig zag in a line around the centre of that strip in green cotton
Cut both edges of that frame and the inner and outer edge of the outside square which was left with serated edge scissors and stitched with a straight stitch which I sewed in uneven twisted lines
Used a heel scourer to ruff up the already cut edges on all but the square around picture
Inked around all edges using Versamark 'Pine Cone' deep brown ink, and also Stampin Up 'Old Olive' ink
Cut vine from another piece of paper from same Cosmo Cricket range and adhered only in certain sections
Added a range of autumn tone flowers and leaves to match papers
Stickled with 'Cinnamon' on brown flower buds on paper vine and 'Eucalyptus' on small leaf sections, and 'Frosted Ice' on cream flowers
Added a metal floral heart to centre of main flower, another brass floral style heart to anchor the journaling note, very small cameo button at base of paper vine and a vintage style square brad at end of braid, topped off pic with 2 metal corners
Didn't want title to stand out too much so used a dull green lettering and stickled over that with a dk green
Hope you enjoyed viewing.

Mothers Day Lunch

My daughter Katie and her partner Jeremy came up from Hobart to spend Mother's Day here. We went to our little local restaurant which does Wood Fired Pizzas/Pasta, we love it, well, actually its the only restaurant here other than the hotel. They are getting pretty excited now as its only 2wks today and they are heading off over to Fiji then on to Erin's in Virginia to visit, they really haved saved hard to do this and Katie can't wait to see Erin.

We have a lovely day and it was so nice to see them, they have been so busy with work.

This page was made from the PAGES IN TIME - April Kit, absolutely gorgeous and very feminine.

I used only a portion of it to do this page of my beautiful great niece Taylah. Picture was taken at her 12 th birthday family party.

The white lace at left of picture and small hand made flowers bottom left, are the only things that weren't in the kit. Can't wait for the next one, these kits are gorgeous.

Well the wedding pics that have taken me almost a year to complete have just about come to an end. My style leans more towards 'pretty' so they have given me the opportunity to really go with that style. However, it's almost time to move on to the next style and challenge myself some more. I love using paper packs with matching embellishments and also plan to start using old techniques like texture paste, embossing and stamping which haven't been used for a while. A challenge which I look forward to.

Another favourite picture, think I just love all of them. This taken in the grounds of Prospect House at Richmond, Tasmania, absolutely beautiful. I chose the DCWV 'Happy Ever After' paper pack for this page. This paper pack is very unusual but by just thinking outside the square a little it realy has a lot of potential and look forward to using more of it. I shaded the brick area around the arch on this to emphasise it, then with the Fiskars finger knife cut part way round all the leaves and bunches of grapes, put a piece of paper behind it so I could use 3D tape and raise it at different levels. I then used a white Signo pen to outline the veins on the leaves so they stood out a little more. White flowers top left and tall flowers at right of picture were 3D from a decoupage sheet something that is becoming a favourite technique of mine, so raid the card areas at your LSS girls and you will be amazed at how you can blend them into your layouts. Vines down side of picture were cut on Cricut using 'Home Decor' cartridge, and I just dotted Kaiser Scrapbooking pearls here and there. Flowers were miscellaneous from my stash as was the beautiful music card with the bird on it.

Memories

Memories of this day will stay with both my daughter and myself forever. She was such a beautiful bride and my wedding album of her and her husband Jarrod is huge, this is for my husband and I, Erin will do her own as she also does scrapbooking but with a different style to mine. There was a soft light filter on for this pic which gives it a dreamy effect and was taken in the attic of the very old heritage home she left from to get married. I chose the Cosmo Cricket 'Everafter' paper pack and wish I had found this earlier it really is lovely. The title, scroll and vines were all cut using the Cricut Cartridge 'Home Decor', the frame using cartridge 'Storybook'.

Exciting News

Just received some exciting news that I have been appointed to the great DT with 'Pages in Time', you should all pop over, its a fabulous site and has a chat line where you can meet and chat with girls who love what I do, scrapping and chatting.

I can't wait to meet the challenge, the team in place is full of fabulous artists so I feel really humbled and honored. Will keep my blog updated with the progress.

The Crop Day went well, got lots done, but had to finish them off at home, I really use my Cricut so much now that its very hard not having it next to me.

Crop Day

Well big day tomorrow, up in time to attend the 'Dawn Service' for ANZAC Day in the morning, we have to be at the service by 6am. in the next town from ours. For those that don't know ANZAC stands for Australian New Zealand Armed Corps. It is the same as the American 'Memorial Day' and commemorates and remembers all the men and women who have fought for our country.

A very moving day which I have attended my whole life, firstly with my mother when my father used to march in the parade, and since marrying, with my husband who served in Vietnam.

There is breakfast after it with a 'hot toddy', and another march at 11am which we won't be attending this year.

So I will be going to a Crop day all day and into the night, it's long but really good fun with lovely ladies, the only thing is I am finding it really difficult to attend crop days now because of the build up of tools I have and use in most layouts. Most of these just can't be carted around, they are either too heavy , or too precious like my Cricut.

Well need to go prepare everything ready for the morning.

This photo of Erin and Jarrod is one of my favourites. Taken climbing back up the side of historical Richmond Bridge in Tasmania, the oldest bridge in Australia. I tried to use colours and an oval effect to match the circular effect of the bridge curving around.

They had been having pictures taken underneath on the grass side walkway.

Used Kaiser Scrapbooking paper in 5 different designs but from same paper pack. Distressed inner oval matting with plinked edge scissors then with a foot buffer, then inked with Versa Mark Pine Cone Ink. Inner scalloped circles cut on Cricut using Cartridge 'Accent Essentials'. Stickles around hearts were done in 'Cinnamon'.

Neglected of Late

I must admit to having neglected my blog of late always seem to have so much to do but am going to try and catch up with some layouts.

Planning our trip to Vietnam, Ireland and America in June. Done as much as I can myself including making very early morning calls to Ireland to make B&B bookings, great fun talking to some wonderful people though even though very time consuming.

Still trying to sort out flight home, at moment we are looking at 26 hours flight time, way too long, but difficult to change with an 'Around World' ticket, hope to sort out tomorrow.

Vintage Style

This is Pg 1 of a double pg spread of the car my daughter arrived in for her wedding. It was a 1956 model Australian Holden, lovingly restored by my brother who proudly drove her to her wedding. The car was in immaculate condition and we all enjoyed the ride in it.

For this layout I used paper from DCWV 'Once upon a time' paper pad. It was already complete with glitter around the flourishes. I used the Cricut to cut the vintage styled frame from miscellaneous paper, also the title. The 'gold' dots were done using 'Liquid Pearls' in gold, this is great to use as it is very easy to control the flow and therefore get quite firm drops of it.

I used the Cricut to cut the leaves, then added miscellaneous flowers and bling.

On the 2nd pg I created a small embellishment using the back of an old brooch. I filled this with Dimensional Magic which I then filled with a mixture of 'sea beads' and popped 3 little crystal beads in the middle, once dried it makes a lovely embellishment.

Always

As always I was waiting for the release of the new Basic Grey lines and wasn' disappointed with the paper I have used in this layout. It was exactly what I was looking for to scrap this picture. Any daughters wedding is special and our daughter and son in law's bridal waltz was just beautiful, so, I wanted that reflected in this layout of my husband and I.

I used the Porcelain line 'Rochelle' to cut all the flowers out using a finger knife, then inked around the edges for definition before adhering with 3D tape. Then mixed in a few smaller blooms and added some Basic Grey rub ons.

Finished it off with the journal tag by Creative Imaginations.

Scared Stiff

Thought I would try some bright papers for a change and this is the result. Once again I have used the Kaiser Scrapbooking paper family range, about 6 pages all up but by cutting pieces out of various pages I am able to probably get 2-3 more layouts done using this paper in a different combination.

Technique with this one was really just cutting around the different papers, then added a few embellishments to the paper ones. The title was done using the Thickers Foam lettering and the black embellishment down the left side was cut using the Cricut Storybook Cartridge.

Making Memories

I used the Kaiser Scrapbooking paper for this layout. A total of 6 different pages which I cut the various flowers and strips from. The lettering is cut using my Cricut cartridge Plantin Schoolbook. Cut them twice and slightly offset the bottom darker one to give a shadow effect and then covered all lettering with Dimensional Magic to give a glazed effect.

The cut flowers have been adhered with 3D tape. The oval shape on right side with a tag, pulls out and I have journaled on the reverse side of it. The bling down the side was sent to me by one of my lovely friends in America whome I met on the SB.C site.

This is a Kaiser Scrapbooking paper design of my great niece and and nephew, just after they'd been in the pool. Love this picture which was taken by my g-niece herself, I thought it was a beautiful soft picture so using Photoshop Elements I feathered around the edge of the picture to soften it even more.

Cut circles from the paper group and 3D them over the circles on the existing tree. Flowers are a mixture of ready made, cut from the paper set, and also centre's cut. Butterfly is by K & Co.

Inspire

My title for this comes simply from this picture which I love of my dd's wedding, it inspired me to put extra effort into this LO to make it as pretty as possible.

I used my Cricut cartridges mainly for this. The title 'Inspire' was cut using 'Home Accents', the scallop circle using 'Storybook with shadow function', and the circle from 'Graphically Speaking with blackout function'. Around the circle I used dimensional magic and sprinkled micro beads over it. The white flourish is from Nicole Lombardo niklindesigns1225.etsy.com thanks Nicole for the beautiful finely cut flourishes you create.

I have used 'Stickles' Frosted Ice and Diamond also 'Kindy Glitz' all over the page, including down the lines at regular intervals and on all the little buds, not sure if that will show out but is very obvious IRL. Outlined the swirl on title with 'Stickles Frosted Lace' just to separate it from the lettering a bit. Thanks for looking.

January 2009 I actually found the patience to put the time in to creating my blog.
Will remember this month also for being sent a copy of my daughters first scan showing our first grandchild.

I wanted to capture the outdoor feel to this picture, with them walking on twigs and pebbles.

Have followed the theme of their wedding album which is predominantly scalloped circles. Edges have been inked and a Fiskars Fancy Circular Edge punch used intermittently around the inner circle. Have stamped the leaves and birds with the birds then having Kindy Glitz applied. Sea Beads have also been used randomly to create a delicate effect.

The leaves and flowers are predominantly glass and the twigs are coated wire. Have finished it off with the 'stone' butterfly embellishment and some sequined nylon flowers.

This was never intended to go in an album and is displayed on a small artists easel.

A Dogs Life

On our daily walks Murphy our golden retriever loves to have a swim or just a play in the water, regardless of how warm it is, and the water is rarely warm here.

I have used Basic Grey paper and elements to design this layout, simply by cutting around the shapes on paper for the shell effect, and the font and scrolls were done using the Cricut Expression.

A slow process

Well its been a slow process trying to nut out how to put this blog together and have a long way to go, but not being very good on computers since I retired means I make a lot of mistakes before getting it right....but we'll keep on going and hopefully I will be able to organise it and add more layouts and scrapping ideas .

Off The Page Layout

I am submitting firstly a page I did of my daughter on the day she was married. This picture was taken at a verey historical homestead in Richmond, Tasmania.

I have used a chipboard circle which has been painted white, then metallic rub-ons have been used around the scalloped edges. The vines have been cut using a small finger knife, took ages but worth the end result.
